Maika Kobayashi has been doing paintings for a long time and have been featured and exhibited throughout Europe. During her recent move to Yamagata she discovered Kokeshi Dolls and started working with local woodcrafters.
Kokeshi Dolls:
纏華 MATOKA is Maika Kobayashi’s Original Design Koeshi.
Kokeshi, which are wooden dolls with round heads and cylinder bodies that began to be sold as souvenirs to the visitors of the hot-springs in the Tohoku region towards the end of the Edo period.
